Salli McQuaid:
Caiman Two, 27"w x 25+9"h, 2010. Detail R.
Artist Statement
Caiman Two combines
geometric
and reptilian imagery. It refers to Caiman crocs, the most
harmless of crocs. Caiman generally won't attack unless provoked. They
are also, with their long noses and puffy cheeks, perhaps the most
visually appealing of the crocodile-alligator family.
In addition to the abstractions of Caiman Two, self-programmed embroideries in
delicate haloshimmer threads portray Caiman as
cartoon animals. These images are subtle; the viewer must find them and
other crocs after close observation of this imaginary locale.
