Artist's Statement

Coyote Night began at the Coyote Café in Santa Fe, NM. There, I was shooting some photographs of the café's interior. When I later examined them, there was one in particular that drew my attention. It was a photograph of the restaurant’s ceiling. This photograph expressed for me the hidden aspects of the region’s culture. Santa Fe is thick with history, and there is a spiritual undercurrent that moves as powerfully as the mighty Columbia River. Land and spirit seem interlocked and mysterious, like the night.

In Coyote Night, I use photographs, Santa Fe imagery, abstractions, and Native American icons to express that dichotomous world.
