Salli McQuaid:
Interruptions, 21.5"w x 22"h, 2011. Detail-R.
Artist 's Statement
Interruptions was developed spontaneously, amidst
numerous annoying interruptions -- mostly telephone salesmen and
wrong numbers, plus a boring delivery at the door. The quilt
began with experimentation in Bargello piecing to use up my
scraps. I found out I did not like piecing the joined and cut
Bargello strips so that they matched. I preferred them to be
disjointed. It dawned on me that the quilt was evolving like my
day -- disjointed. Then I knew the quilt was about
interruptions, and I reiterated that theme throughout the
process. Interruptions became a joy to make, and
the interruptions now seemed like a gift!
