Artist’s Statement

I am really interested in astronomy, and when I learned that “red giants” are the smallest stars in the universe and that our sun falls into that category, I simply had to do a portrait of our sun in red. An interesting aspect of the quilt “Red Giant” is that the sun image contains many straight angles, resembling somewhat the refractions of light.
