Rose Mountain: Cosmic Illusion #51:

Salli McQuaid: Rose Mountain, 4-1/4”w x 3-7/8” h (quilt size),
custom matted (archival) and framed, mixed media, 2009.

Artist’s Statement

Rose Mountain is the tiniest quilt I’ve ever made. I started it in a class with the wonderful quilt artist Vinetta Morger, in which she taught her method of piecing small squares. When I got it home, I made it into a miniature landscape by adding stitching and applique work.  It was fun making this micro-mini quilt that incorporated a new method of piecing squares, but it took quite a bit more time to complete it than one would imagine.

The final result is a colorful fantasy scene with Asian overtones.
