Flying Horses: label
I have changed my label to one I
print on silk. It gives more information, but takes
about the same amount of time to complete. |

Artist's
Statement
Flying Horses was really
fun to make because I was experimenting with the "Card Trick"
block by Jeffery Gutcheon to see if I could come up with an original
interpretation of the block.
I also envisioned a theme centered around
horses. I put the blocks together so that the overall abstract image looked like
it was flying. The horses then looked like they were flying around in a
dark sky, while simply pursuing their normal activities. To me, this
parallels the lives so many of us lead in the 21st century.
I used relaxed machine embroidery to
enrich Flying Horses, employing many colors and stitches. For me,
the
outside binding is made of a particularly appealing fabric, as it is
evocative of the imagery in a Jackson Pollock "drip" painting.

block.
