(for) Little Wolf Band: Cosmic Illusion #17

.

Little Wolf Band, 37"x 27", 2007.

This textile artwork was created in honor of the Native American Little Wolf Band, which plays traditional native American music. A tiny variation of the Seminole quilt block invented by a member of the Seminole tribe lines the left and right borders.

Little Wolf Band

began with an idea. I often listen to this band when I work and find their plaintive, pounding sounds haunting. Sometimes there are even wolves howling in the background. So I wanted to do an imaginary quilt to honor the people and their music.

I truly believe I channeled this artwork. In fact, when I first tried to load it up on my website, the computer wouldn’t take it. The quilt demanded the last, cross-shaped talisman that I had debated about including.

Quilt History: Displayed at indoor exhibition, Chama Outdoor Quilt Festival, Chama, NM, June, 2008.
