Kimono Wedding   (Cosmic Illusion #6)

Front    (53"x 59")    Back

Label

Five kimonos help make up the large, overall kimono. Four are blocks; the fifth, center, is my original derivative kimono.

There were two times when I just wanted to abandon making Kimono Wedding entirely because I thought it was so ugly, but  I am glad I persevered. It now hangs in the home of Colleen Wiley-Doran, and Jonnie Doran (UK), in Oregon.

Because I love Asian things, I wanted to make a Japanese piece. I read several books on the subject, and this is the result.

When making this artwork, I employed machine embroidery, long-arm pantographing, applique, gilting  and piecing. Much of the imagery employs traditional Japanese symbolism.
