Artist’s Statement
Aloha Eye was my first attempt in using my own paper piecing method for an
original, non-geometric design. It worked perfectly for the bottom panel, on top
of which I appliqued the waves. Above, I used the paper as a foundation for
applique work. Then I joined the two sections together. Next, panels were added
on the top and the left.
The quilt is about Elvis Presley "shooting the curl" in Waikiki. Undersea, blue
sharks lurk. (I believe there were many "sharks" in Presley's life.)
