We
were in Chama, NM, June 16, 2008, at the first run of the newly-restored
Locomotive #315 departing from Chama into the Colorado mountains and
operated by the Cumbres-Toltec Scenic railroad. The old #315 was
restored by Durango Railroad Historical Society (Durango, CO).
Tunnel Vision commemorates that
momentous rail fan occasion. It juxta-poses Colorado Mountain and Northern
NM imagery and symbolism. To the delight of rail fans taking this first run, a
brown bear was spotted |
loping along the tracks. You can find a brown bear hiding in the treesof Tunnel Vision. A Cumbres-Toltec
souvineer railroad pin given out on that historic run is collaged to the quilt,
too. The artwork contains my
original machine embroidery of the locomotive as I picture it winding through the
Rockies during the dead of winter. The Chama region aura is thick with
Native American custom, history, and imagery; and on Tunnel Vision's
periphery I referred to that
intangible world, too. |
